  • WHOLE SCHOOL TRIP TO ABERAVON BEACH - Wednesday 19th July

    Mon 17 Jul 2023

Hello, we just wanted to update you about our whole school trip to Aberavon Beach on Wednesday this week.
The buses will be leaving school at 9.15am sharp. We are unable to wait for any late arrivals, so please set your alarms!
Please can you bring your child into school as close to 8.50am as possible. Staff will be there to greet them, they will go into the class for registration and toileting.
If you are driving to the beach, please wait in our Gwawr Street yard and the children will be brought back out to you after registration.
If you are joining us on the bus, please come around to the car park/office entrance and Cardiff Road gate and we will collect you along with your child's class on the way to the bus.
We will be leaving Aberavon Beach at 1.45pm - unfortunately, if you are not on the bus at this time we will sadly be leaving without you and you will have to find alternative transport home because the buses have to be back for their school runs.
If you have any questions please call the school office.
Hope you have your buckets and spades ready for our sandcastle competition! Thank you

  • SPORTS DAY - 7th July 2023

    Thu 06 Jul 2023

Hello #teamblaengwawr, we have checked the forecast and tomorrow is looking good and sunny and we have our fingers crossed that the Astroturf will have had a chance to dry out from our wet weather this week!

Just a few reminders, if possible please can your child come to school in a t-shirt (red, green, blue, yellow) for their House colour. All children need a re-fillable water bottle that they can take up with them to sports day activities to keep hydrated. They also need a sun hat and for sun cream to be applied before coming to school please.

As we shared before we will open the blue gate on Gwawr Street for parents/family members to enter and go through the yard onto the Astroturf - at 9.45am for Nursery, Reception, Year 1 & 2 and then at 12.45pm for Years 3, 4, 5 & 6.

Nursery, Reception, Year 1 & Year 2 sports day starts at 10am.

    Years 3, 4, 5 & 6 sports day starts at 1pm.

Please be aware there are no toilets on the Astroturf or seating so feel free to bring a picnic blanket or chair. Each sports day session will start with the children going around different activities in their houses and then finish with some traditional running races. Don't forget we need you to play your part as well for the Mums/Aunties/Granny and Dads/Uncles/Grandpa races at the end!

At the end of the session we will take the children back to their class to get their coats/bags etc and we can dismiss straightaway to any parents/family members once the afternoon sessions are over from the Gwawr Street yard. If you have younger siblings to collect our staff will bring them to you.

We look forward to seeing as many of you as possible as we know the weather will have inconvenienced families who needed time away from work. We will be sharing photos via class dojo with those that can't be with us.

    Thank you

  • SUMMER FETE - Friday 14th July - 3.00 to 5.00pm

    Thu 06 Jul 2023

Hello everyone, we are really excited that it is almost our summer fete and we are crossing our fingers for a good weather day!

This week we have sent a few things out to parents. Yesterday it was our jolly pots with a little note (see the photo below) to ask if they could please be filled with wrapped sweets, covered in clingfilm and returned into school by Wednesday 12th July (or as soon as you are able to). Please don't use any nut products due to allergies.

Today we are sending home raffle tickets with a list of the fabulous prizes (see photo below). They are £1 per strip and we ask that if you are able to buy some or sell to friends and family then you write their name and a contact number (or your child's name) on the back so that we can identify the winners. We will be drawing the raffle between 4.30 - 5.00pm at the fete next Friday. Prizes will be available to be chosen and collected by you then.

Thank you for your support. All money raised will be spent on enhancing the children's experiences in the outdoors this year, by renewing equipment or much needed resources. We will share our plans with you and photos as our way of saying thank you in helping us fundraise.

    Diolch #teamblaengwawr!

  • Information from RCT Director of Education about Holiday Free School Meal Provision

    Wed 05 Jul 2023

    Holiday Free School Meal Provision

Holiday provision for learners who are eligible for free school meals was introduced in response to the Covid-19 pandemic as a form of time-limited support to help families. While there have been several temporary continuations of the scheme, Welsh Government has confirmed that despite fully exploring options for funding a further extension, it has not been possible due to funding constraints. Therefore, the most recent payments in May half term are the last. There will be no further extension to cover the summer holiday period or beyond.

There are several resources that might be useful for parents/carers previously in receipt of the offer can use:

Get help with the cost of living: GOV.WALES this page is regularly updated and provides information on possible sources of financial support, including our Discretionary Assistance Fund for people experiencing extreme financial pressures.

Here to help with the cost of living GOV.WALES - this campaign seeks to encourage people to contact Advicelink Cymru - Citizens Advice for free impartial advice on maximising their incomes, including accessing any financial support.

Families might also be interested in the School Holiday Enrichment Programme (SHEP) which takes place in some schools. This scheme provides healthy meals, food and nutrition education, physical activity and enrichment sessions to children in areas of socio-economic disadvantage during the school holidays. The programme is promoted to children and families under the 'Food and Fun' brand identity. For further information, please visit 'Food and Fun' School Holiday Enrichment Programme - WGLA.

It is also possible to access more support and advice for families experiencing financial hardship on the Council's website via the following link:

    https://www.rctcbc.gov.uk/EN/Resident/ConsumerAdviceandMoneyMatters/CostofLivingSupport/CostofLivingSupport.aspx

I am sure this news will be a source of concern to families and hope that the information provided will help a little.

    Wed 05 Jul 2023

Hello #teamblaengwawr, please see below a short survey for those families experiencing tough and challenging times within our school community.

Since we returned from the pandemic we decided as a school that one way we could help would be to provide some food parcels at the start of each major holiday period to help these families out.

If you read this and feel it may apply to your circumstances, please read and complete the short survey below. All information is kept confidential and anonymous by the office. Many thanks, Mrs Poole
