  • Information from RCT Director of Education about Holiday Free School Meal Provision

    Wed 05 Jul 2023

    Holiday Free School Meal Provision

Holiday provision for learners who are eligible for free school meals was introduced in response to the Covid-19 pandemic as a form of time-limited support to help families. While there have been several temporary continuations of the scheme, Welsh Government has confirmed that despite fully exploring options for funding a further extension, it has not been possible due to funding constraints. Therefore, the most recent payments in May half term are the last. There will be no further extension to cover the summer holiday period or beyond.

There are several resources that might be useful for parents/carers previously in receipt of the offer can use:

Get help with the cost of living: GOV.WALES this page is regularly updated and provides information on possible sources of financial support, including our Discretionary Assistance Fund for people experiencing extreme financial pressures.

Here to help with the cost of living GOV.WALES - this campaign seeks to encourage people to contact Advicelink Cymru - Citizens Advice for free impartial advice on maximising their incomes, including accessing any financial support.

Families might also be interested in the School Holiday Enrichment Programme (SHEP) which takes place in some schools. This scheme provides healthy meals, food and nutrition education, physical activity and enrichment sessions to children in areas of socio-economic disadvantage during the school holidays. The programme is promoted to children and families under the 'Food and Fun' brand identity. For further information, please visit 'Food and Fun' School Holiday Enrichment Programme - WGLA.

Hello #teamblaengwawr, please see below a short survey for those families experiencing tough and challenging times within our school community.

Since we returned from the pandemic we decided as a school that one way we could help would be to provide some food parcels at the start of each major holiday period to help these families out.

If you read this and feel it may apply to your circumstances, please read and complete the short survey below. All information is kept confidential and anonymous by the office. Many thanks, Mrs Poole

  • SPORTS DAY

    Thu 29 Jun 2023

*****UPDATE - re-scheduled to FRIDAY 7TH JULY DUE TO RAINY FORECAST ON 4th JULY*****

We hope that the weather will be kind as you know our Sports Day is planned for Tuesday 4th July. If forecasts do not look good - we will make a decision and notify you by the end of Monday 3rd July.

Nursery, Reception, Year 1 and 2 will be held on our Astroturf to begin at 10.00am.

We will open the blue gate from Gwawr Street at 9.45am for parents to arrive and go through our yard onto the Astroturf. The gate will be manned by our staff. Unfortunately there are no toilet facilities or seats on the astroturf but please feel free to bring a camping chair or picnic blanket.

In the afternoon then we will have Year 3, 4, 5 and 6 starting on the Astroturf at 1.00pm (we will open the Gwawr Street gate at 12.45pm for access again through our yard).

We are running a new set up whereby the children will first be doing activities with their house team and move around different stations before then having some more traditional races. Don't forget to prepare yourself as we need Mums/Grans/Auntie, Dads/Grandpas/Uncles to run at the end and make your children proud! :)

You should all have been messaged which house your child is in so they can wear a t-shirt of that colour. Please don't feel the need to buy a new t-shirt and if they don't have one of that colour please just send them in another. Can all children please bring in a sun hat and re-fillable water bottle and wear shorts and suitable trainers. Don't forget to apply sun cream before school. Thank you

  • Attendance % Letters for all pupils - Red, Amber or Green

    Mon 24 Apr 2023

Hello #teamblaengwawr, as you know in our school we aim to ensure that all children attend school regularly and on time to ensure that they are able to make the most of their educational experiences.

Research has shown that children with good school attendance build up stronger friendship groups and are happy learners and this is why attendance in school every day is a key school priority.

Research has also shown the negative impact of lateness and absence on pupil's educational achievement and future opportunities and as a school we don't want to limit our pupils later life opportunities.

Both whole school, class and individual pupil attendance is regularly monitored by our leadership team. As we mentioned in one of our spring term newsletters we will be reviewing each pupil's termly attendance and sending an individual letter out to parents to show if they are in the green, amber or red % band. If you have any questions after receiving your letter please email your queries to head@blaengwawrprimary.rctcbc.cymru

For more in-depth information on our school policy and views on attendance please visit our school website via the following link: https://www.blaengwawrprimary.co.uk/attendance-1/

  • Easter Celebrations - 31st March 2023

    Wed 29 Mar 2023

Hello #teamblaengwawr we hope you are enjoying preparing your Easter bonnets and decorating those eggs ready for Friday 31st March.
We hope that the weather is on our side but at the moment the forecast isn't looking good.

If the weather is fine we are inviting parents into the main yard from Gwawr Street (blue gate) for Nursery, Reception, Year 1 & Year 2 at 2.00pm to hear some Easter songs and see the eggs and bonnets. Then we are inviting parents in for Years 3, 4, 5 & 6 at 2.30pm for the same.

However, if the weather is bad unfortunately we can not host all parents in the hall so we will make some recordings of the bonnets, eggs, songs and poems and share these with you via class dojo and the website.
